Original question by: @rainrain@sh.itjust.works
Is it the other players, because they beat you?
Is it you, because you chose to play the game?
Is it the game manufacturer?
It depends, and it’s not necessarily the same answer every time even if it’s the same player(s) playing the same scenario in the same game over and over.
Lag
Or hax
Or generic bullshit
Blue shell
My teammates, obviously.
It is yourself. Because winning or losing is less important than having fun. If you did not have fun, then you lost, no matter the outcome.
There’s nothing wrong with admitting you don’t have fun when you lose. Some games are just like that. Most people can handle a few losses, but losing a game over and over again, no matter what the cause, eventually stops being fun for most people.
Yeah, but if it’s not fun, and you keep playing it, that’s still on you.
I’m not sure who said otherwise? Or how that relates to the original comment?
If you’re not having fun, don’t play. But this person is (essentially) saying that winning/losing is not tied to fun, which is not true. It’s not 1:1, but it is certainly tied to it. No one likes feeling like they are engaging in a Sisyphean exercise
Not Vitas Gerulaitis though.
Devs not balancing correctly.
It’s me, cos I’m shit.
Some screaming teenage fk who also fks my mother and usually is from eastern Europe.
Lag. Or he was cheating. One of those two. Never anything else. I am objectively the best player of any game in the world and those who disagree will be fragged. Unless there’s lag. Or you cheat. 😤
But seriously: I love Soulsborne games for the PVP. Unless they really are cheating (usually just in the form of using complicated exploits like move swapping), it was their skill over mine or I just completely fucked up. Elden Ring, on the other hand, feels messed up. DS3 has lag, sure, but it’s something you quickly get accustomed to and it’s pretty consistent. ER’s (stock, anyway) multiplayer is straight up garbage. Can’t even co-op without rubber banding all over the place. I’ve gotta see if Seamless Co-op is generally all around better for connectivity because the vanilla game’s is horrible.
Obviously it is god’s fault for creating this flawed universe in which I don’t win every single game I play.
It depends if I feel the death is deserved and if I’m having fun.
If I’m playing something like Battlefield and keep dying because of someone’s skills with a plane I’m fine with that and it definitely feels like it’s on me. If it’s someone sliding around shipment in Call of Duty mobile killing me as soon as I spawn and I’m lucky if I end their kill streak I feel like that’s on the game because of baked in mechanics being frustrating to counter.
I would say it’s definitely the most noticeable with games like Elden Ring. I suck so bad at them but I feel like I deserve each death and don’t feel irritated by dying.
It’s only in situations where someone is hacking that I would actually blame another player.
I feel like this implies never losing is an option. The other players aren’t idiots either, so of course they’re going to prevail a statistically reasonable percent of the time.
(Serious answers are allowed, right?)
