My baseline circadian rhythm doesn’t let me get sleepy until the sun starts coming up. In a bygone era, I would’ve been the guy tending the fire and watching over the camp until the early birds got up. In the modern era, night shift jobs are generally terrible. I strategically drink to fall asleep at a somewhat reasonable hour, so I can participate in modern society.

agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the most "heavenly" music you 've heard?2·1 day agoGuess that kind of depends on whether you’re going for “sublime serene harmony” or “the unfathomable might of God”. I think the church kinda nailed it on both fronts, choirs for the first and pipe organs for the second.
This scene from Mr. Nobody is a great example of the first, which seems a bit more what you’re going for.
Two points:
“I have to go to a place” actually has its own semantic implications. It’s a modern construction, deliberately vague to imply intentional mystery or semi-sincere shame.
“How flies the time” ironically makes the speaker sound more well-versed in English, like a stuffy old professor.
The rain falls down without my help, I’m afraid. And my lawn gets wet, though I’ve withheld my consent

One time I bought olive flavored gummies from the Asian market because I love olives and I was curious. Absolutely horrible, didn’t even finish one.

What’s not to get? Someone left my cake out in the rain, and I don’t think that I can take it, because it took too long to bake it, and I’ll never have that recipe again.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Yeah life is rigged. What’re you gonna do, cry about it? Or get all your buddies together and turn to face life, and say “Who the hell do you think I am?”. Row row, flight the power.
agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a game you've played that you're surprised isn't really popular?6·5 days agoYeah I looked at Cypher when I was looking for a new home after abandoning D&D5e, but the crunch of GURPS appealed to me. I like having optional play tested mechanics for everything, so my power gamers get consistent rulings but my casual players don’t feel too much pressure.
agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a game you've played that you're surprised isn't really popular?6·5 days agoI could name so many tabletop RPGs for this.
GURPS has been my obsession for a few years now. It’s both the simplest, in terms of base mechanics, and most complex, in terms of optional rules, TTRPG I can imagine. It can handle literally any setting, play style, or crunch level with ease.

I wanna give them the benefit of the doubt, since I myself was pro-Elon once upon a time, but c’mon. I know not everyone stays plugged into the news cycle, but you didn’t know until after you bought the cybertruck?
agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How much data do you require before you accept something as "fact"?2·11 days agoI’ll colloquially use the word “fact” for extremely well supported claims, but in my head the only actual “facts” are mathematical derivations. Evidence supports the veracity of a claim, and a claim with a lot of evidence gets a tentative place in my world model, but any of those claims can be refuted by sufficient counter-evidence

The man who raged against City Hall for 9 minutes. I always assumed “as long as there’s a record deal we’ll always be friends” was more tongue in cheek.
I think putting myself down does help me. I was raised by a narcissist intent on making me their reflection. I put myself down to counteract 18 years of narcissistic conditioning. Granted, if you weren’t raised to be a narcissist you probably shouldn’t do it. I’m an edge case.
