Yeah, keeping the public in the dark so people against it aren’t there to voice their opinion is how these like this get passed. Media attention to inform the public was a good thing.

They chose a funny example too with Ford when the more appropriate one would be Tesla with it being in current events. But, they went with a dead person because it doesn’t help their argument.
Then there’s me owner of Android and Apple and talks shit on both haha.
They kind of got that rep though for defending things people saw as anti consumer such as soldered ram, limited, storage, and blocking installation of non Apple apps. Always going Apple knows best and its for security.
Not exactly the group known for demanding more, but ones who are more complacent.
I’m an Apple owner too with MacMini and iPad so these criticisms of Apple users isn’t coming from a non Apple product owning hater. I think average Apple fan in general really sucks for how they seem to kneel over to whatever Apple decides compared to other platform users who are much more critical and demanding of products.
Wish there was a way to make our own phones as opposed to be continuing to be at the mercy of OEMs who build phones without the intention of people running custom roms. Wish it was like PCs where we could pick and choose our own parts without having to buy prebuilts.
Yep, switching as many apps as you can to foss apps, and moving to non Gmail based email services will make future switching way easier.
I think any place with moderation is going to have an echo chamber. And then ironic thing is a place without moderation also leads to an echo chamber, since people who don’t like the vibe leave.
I use both, but I use stealth for reddit so I’m not logged in. But, I can actually comment on lemmy with third party apps.
Used thinkpads are cheaper and reuse is one of the best ways to reduce ewaste by using something that was headed to the landfill. I’ve been happy with my t480s.
That’s unfortunate. Looks like thinkpads aren’t worth getting. I generally do not trust manfucturer preinstalled OS.
If os can’t be installed off a usb then that means linux can’t either, which makes it a pretty sad machine to spend money on.
So it must be a work or school device then? Which users wouldn’t be installing OS on anyways with it being handled through IT.
Rufus can be used to disable account creation along with other settings.
Its also funny how they edit their comment on their downvotes because it upset them.
No one sideloads? Have you not heard of this niche indie game called Fornite that was removed from Google Play and Epic pushed sideloading means to install it?
If there is a kanban extension or something of the sort you might get the drag and drop list you want.
There is another Google Keep like app called NotallyX. Can even import in your Google keep backups. You can set up password protected auto backups with the app.
As for syncing syncthing as others have mentioned would be the best solution that would let you be able to use whatever you choose to go with.
I’m no interested in tiktok. I don’t need tiktok for a social connection. I wasn’t here for a recruitment to tiktok, but just answering your initial question of providing a viewpoint to those that dislike it. I respect your right to use tiktok or any other alternatives. It just happens to be not for me.
It is too social for me. I’m not interested in a platform that tends to push people to put a face or name behind an account. I prefer it to just be like the conversation we are having now where you are just another random user name.
And I perceive more positives to not using social media like tiktok, twitter, threads, or Instagram with huge corporate backing and invasive apps than using it. And times those social media even comes up as a useful search result has been pretty much zero. So that’s just a big pass on tiktok for me. Even more so with the leadership change.
For me its general dislike for influencers and platforms where people are encouraged to put a face behind content, go viral, and make money off of due to tending to attract content from people coming off like aspiring infomercial hosts. Like labubu I didn’t even know about until South Park, so it was like kind of awe inspiring what a huge hive mind of mass reach it can be for those part of it.
But then again I don’t like twitch and most big YouTube content creators either for a similar reason, so I might be just an anomaly when it comes to social media. I don’t like Twitter and Instagram either.
I’ve preferred social media where people interact for the sake of interacting, since the foundation for potential monetary pay off or fame is really poor for that. So more message board type stuff like lemmy, reddit, and old school forums. Things where there’s less of a chance of someone going in to try to turn it into a side hustle.
And this type of mentality is why people did nothing when Sony and Nintendo decided to start charging for multiplayer. And why companies keep doing shrinkflation and getting away with it for other products.
They never seem to see an issue with being bent over, and keep defending it and finding reasons to justify being charged for everything.
Linux isn’t a single distro though so just hop to one that doesn’t have it for those who don’t want it.
