My (f42) partner (25) of almost 2 yrs is a feminine man, and I love him because of it, not in spite of it.

I grew up in a “they deserve to DIE” toxic conservative household too tho, so I understand how it makes you think the whole world is like that. I can only recommend exposure therapy to help drive home that the average person is by and large loving and accepting and would rather you be your authentic self than have you jump thru imaginary hoops leftover from your childhood.

I still refuse to wear dresses and skirts bc of the gender role trauma I experienced tho, so hopefully you can do a better job than me by the time you’re my age of shrugging all that off and being exactly the kind of human you want to be, regardless of how you were raised to do or be or not do or be certain things.

In my teens and 20s I had depression, so I told myself horrible things like “I’m only worth anything to ppl bc of my art” and “everyone’s worse off for having known me,” but I don’t think like that anymore. I’ve been trying to think for a few mins if I tell myself positive stuff now instead, but I don’t think I do, I just stopped telling myself garbage.

I used to sketch out ppls’ answers and give them the drawing to remind them they’re creative even if they never considered themselves in that light before. Bc every single person I ask can come up with at least one thing, from jeans with a star patch on the back pocket to a tiny home village arrayed a certain way.

Hire product designers and artists to go to every high school art classroom and ask kids “If you could invent anything in the world, what would it be?” and then draw it for them. So they can get a taste of that feeling that they too have something to contribute to the world. Put the ideas up on a site like kickstarter, with the profits going towards their college education. Nvm, fuck that. I’d pay for college for everybody.

I’d also travel while I could before the planet gets much hotter.

I feel like these are small goals left over from when I was younger bc I can’t properly conceive of what a world without scarcity for me and everyone else looks like. I’d start with the housing problem though, bc that’s what I’m facing rn.

It took me a long time to recover from the cult I was raised in, too. Every time I think I’ve got it all out of my system, some new insight comes to light and shocks me all over again. Like reading Chris Hedge’s 2006(or 7, I forget) book Totalitarianism in America. It goes over how the Dominionism Cult my mom was in in the 90s started in the 70s and is behind the US’s current political takeover attempt.

Just keep educating yourself like you have been, and you’ll be alright 💜 Just don’t get down on yourself when more ingrained dogma pops up, be glad you noticed it instead!
